What are funding rates?
Funding rates are payments made every 8 hours between traders holding long (bullish) and short (bearish) positions in perpetual futures. When positive, longs pay shorts — the market is bullish biased. When negative, shorts pay longs — the market is bearish biased. Extreme rates in either direction often signal an overcrowded trade about to reverse.

What to look for: Consistently rising rates signal an overheating market. Rates suddenly turning negative after being positive can signal a trend reversal. Switch between exchanges to compare their history.
